NewsRipe Coffee Newsletter May 2010It has been a while since our last newsletter, so we have a bit of catching up to do. We have now shifted the office from the Moera store, completing the move of the wholesale division to Victoria Street in Petone. The phone numbers for Ripe Coffee remain the same with enquires and admin to 586 2245 and orders to 586 3345. However if you need to talk to the crew at Moera please call their new number 586 2255. With the office now in Petone we are in the process of changing the interior of Ripe Moera, this will include a new colour scheme, new tables with tall stools as well as new soft seating and the installation of our new sample roaster. We want to keep the coffee focus in Moera, so the roaster will be going daily to help with blend development and consistency. We are planning an opening night for wholesale customers and invited guests on Thursday 17th June we will be taking this opportunity to launch the new Barista certification that we have been developing. If you have seen our service van around town, you may have noticed the big sheriff badge on the side of it. The certification has been designed to enhanced the level of Ripe baristas and improve the quality and consistency of our coffee at Ripe supplied outlets. You will be able to identify someone who has completed the first stage of the certification by their certificate with a single spur rating. Once the second stage of certification (2 spur rating) is completed the barista will be recognised wearing a special Ripe sheriffs apron and metal sheriffs badge. Only baristas presented with these unique symbols of achievement have completed the second level and passed a practical test. We have a great new kitchen crew at Moera, Kim and Rosina have been busy creating a new seasonal menu for the café and are working on some new ideas for the to-go lines, you may have noticed the addition of old school sweets and fresh fruit along side the existing homemade goodies, at the Hospital and Boulcott St stores we have also introduced Gelato. At Brandon Street, Sam is now Captain of the Corner and has a great assistant in Natasha. At the Hutt Hospital we have Kayla and Emma that are new helping out Paul. So if you can, check out the sites and meet the new crew. We have also introduced Keepcups and reusable carry trays available to purchase in our stores. Both products are a sustainable way of taking your coffee away without the wastage. The Keepcup is also better value when we refill the cup. In other news, we have introduced a 500g drinking chocolate retail bag to our range of products, like our fair trade coffee, the chocolate is sourced through Trade Aid and is a full fair trade and organic product. It contains no milk products or anti caking agents so has a natural chocolate taste and is suitable for Vegans. With winter fast approaching we look forward to seeing you in to warm up with a nice coffee or hot chocolate.
Jason and Ken.
